What kind of leather do you use?
One hundred percent full grain US steerhides, dyed completely through. Depending on the design, Mission Mercantile uses vegetable tanned, chrome tanned, or twice tanned leather. Full grain is the strongest and most durable part of the hide. It is not sanded or buffed to hide imperfections. It develops a rich patina with age and tells the story of where it has been.
Where are your leather goods made?
Mission Mercantile owns two workshops. One near San Antonio, Texas. The primary shop, Blue Artisan, is located in Leon, Mexico, deep in a region known worldwide for generational leather craftsmanship. The same artisans handcraft goods for over thirty other brand names. Every stitch and hammer strike is done by people the company calls family.
What does Mission-Built for Life mean?
It means every product is designed to improve with age, accumulating distinction and character as it moves through the years. Materials are chosen with longevity as the first priority. Repairs can be made well into the future by an experienced craftsman because the construction is honest and the materials are authentic. These are not disposable products. They are future heirlooms.
What is the guarantee?
Unconditional. Mission Mercantile stands behind every leather good they sell. Like the shopkeeper behind the mercantile counter a hundred years ago, if something is not right, they make it right. No fine print. No runaround.
How do I care for full grain leather?
Keep it clean. Wipe it down with a dry cloth when it gets dusty. Condition it once or twice a year with a quality leather conditioner. Do not soak it. If it gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never put it near a heater or use a hair dryer on it. Full grain leather is tough, but heat is its enemy. Store it in a cool dry place when not in use. That is about it. Good leather does not ask for much.

Processing times

Orders go out Monday through Friday, typically arriving within 2-3 business days (faster in Texas!). Delivery times for each carrier choice is an estimate only. Most of our orders will be delivered within the carrier time frame. If not, it is a circumstance beyond our control such as the weather or an unexpected carrier delay. Please refer to your emailed tracking number for updates regarding delivery.
