Frequently asked questions

What makes your bees different from other stock?
Mite resistance developed the hard way. No treatments. Ever. The colonies that survived early winters passed their traits forward. Today mite washes consistently measure around one percent even in August and September, when most untreated colonies show far higher counts. The bees also overwinter with a smaller cluster, use fewer stored resources, and build up fast when natural forage comes available. For beekeepers with pollination contracts, they can be manipulated early with pollen patties and syrup.
Is your honey raw?
Yes. Raw wildflower honey from Central Alabama. No heat treatment. No filtration beyond what is needed to remove wax bits. What comes out of the hive is what goes in the jar. Different seasons produce different flavor profiles depending on what is blooming. That variation is not inconsistency. It is proof the honey was not blended into uniformity.
What honey products do you offer?
Bottled raw wildflower honey, creamed honey, hot honey, chunk honey, comb honey, and honey straws. Each one comes from the same untreated, mite resistant colonies that define Chilton Bee Company.
What non-honey products do you make?
Beeswax candles, lip balm, soap, body butter, lotion, and wax melts. All made with beeswax from the same hives that produce the honey. Nothing synthetic. Nothing outsourced.
Do you sell live bees?
Yes. Nucs, established hives, and mated queens. All from the same untreated, mite resistant stock. Whether you are starting your first hive or expanding an apiary, the genetics are proven. Yearly inspections by the State of Alabama Apiary Protection Unit back up what the mite washes show.
